Belletrista Blog

To celebrate our first anniversary, we’re going to give away two great prizes, one each to two of our readers! Each prize will contain two books which have been featured in Belletrista in some way, and one fabulous Belle bag!  The packets can, we believe, be sent anywhere in the world with a viable mailing address. Names will be placed in a proverbial “hat” and two winners will be drawn at random from those who have entered. We will contact the winning names to obtain your mailing address.

To enter to win, just post here, and tell us, in just a few sentences, about a book or new author you discovered through Belletrista!

Closing date: 30th September

*Belletrista reviewers, writers, and board members  are not eligible.
*Books included will be chosen by Belletrista.
*Winners mailing addresses will not be used for anything other than to mail their prize to.

I discovered Adania Shibli through Belletrista. I can’t wait to read her next book in translation!

I discovered several: Mari Strachan, Mridula Garg, Gioconda Belli, Hiromi Kawakami, Yoko Ogawa, and *drum roll* Hilary Mantel. I never would have discovered the writers in translation if it hadn’t been for Belletrista and I am truly grateful for the introduction to Hilary Mantel. As well, Mari Strachan’s “The Earth Hums in B Flat” is the best first novel by an author I have ever read.

I discovered several that I wouldn’t have known about otherwise. My favorite was The Boy Next Door, by Irene Sabatini. Just this week I wrote a blog post singing the praises of the Belle-inspired books I’ve read this year:

Laura – I like your Belletrista challenge. Great idea!

I have not read many, but the wishlist expands greatly with each issue of Belletrista. In particular, thank you for bringing to my attention Assia Djebar. And after reading “Conversations” in this most recent issue, I am looking for “Sky Burial”. Yes, I stopped before the discussion of the ending.
